Urban Design Workshop

How can a city become more comfortable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all people?

As part of this interactive workshop, participants will look at the city from the perspective of pedestrians and cyclists. After a theoretical session, they will observe and explore real urban spaces, identify existing problems, and develop creative ideas for creating a more sustainable and people-centred environment.

The programme consists of three parts:

• Introduction and discussion — 60 minutes
• Observation and problem identification — 90 minutes
• Urban laboratory and development of solutions — 120 minutes

During the workshop, we will explore transport and road-related issues, the condition of public spaces, environmental pollution, the privatisation of the city, the lack of affordable housing, abandoned buildings, and other local challenges.

The workshop will be led by Osamu Okamura — architect, urbanist, lecturer, Director of the Czech Centre Tbilisi, and author of “City for Everyone: A Manual of Urbanism for Beginners”.

Part of the event will take place outdoors, including in rainy weather. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring an umbrella if necessary.

The event is organised by the Czech Centre Tbilisi in cooperation with a local partner. It is implemented as part of the CYCLE UP! project and co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme.
