Cycling Tour to Partskhisi: Following Historic Battles
This route heads towards Partskhisi and recalls the important battle of 1074.
CCN invites you to an easy cycling tour series: Following Historic Battles 🚴♂️⚔️
The Battle of Partskhisi took place in 1074 between Sarang, the governor of Ganja, and King Giorgi II of Georgia. After the Seljuk Sultan Malik-Shah devastated Ganja and struck Amir Fadlun, he appointed Sarang as governor of Ganja. Sarang was left with 48,000 cavalry and was tasked with raiding Kartli.
Sarang was joined by the amirs of Dvin and Dmanisi and invaded Kartli. King Giorgi II quickly gathered his army, allied himself with Aghsartan I, King of Kakheti, and met the enemy at Partskhisi, in what is now the Tetritskaro Municipality. The Georgians defeated the enemy and drove them away. The victory at Partskhisi was of great importance for Georgia 📜
